The Common Ground Join

About

A movement first. A foundation so the work can hold.

The website is not an about-us page that happens to mention an idea. The idea is the front door. This page is for when you want the structure.

The Common Ground is a multidisciplinary, climate-positive, human-centric commune and an independent movement rooted in ancestral and Indigenous knowledge. That is the identity. It is not a claim that every practice is already proven, or that the movement speaks for the knowledge holders it learns from.

The legal entity is Common Commune Foundation, a Section 8 company registered in Kerala. The foundation is how the work can employ, host, and be written to. It is not the interesting part. It is the part that has to be true.

Where it has been, and where it is going

Common Ground began by working through its own spaces and experiments. Dhaanyam, in Attappadi, is the space that can be described with confirmed facts. Mayavadi is named, carefully, as a commune space in the wider movement. The next phase is outward. Independent sustainable spaces. Shared resources. Learning from one another. Collaborations that are still ahead, not announced as if they were signed.

People

The work is done with farmers, builders, artists, students, guests, and knowledge holders. This page does not invent a staff grid. The one person named in the public field notes, and so named here, is Mariyappan, an Irula elder, whose building knowledge is his lineage's. He is not presented as staff. He is presented as the person the note itself centres.

If you are looking for a founder myth, you will not find one on this site. The useful introduction is the practice. Creation over consumption. Observe, explore, experiment, evolve. Modern resources and ancestral wisdom, in that pairing, not as a slogan printed over a leaf.

How to read us

Curious rather than preachy. Direct rather than corporate. Emotional without being dramatic. If a sentence on this website cannot be checked, it should not be here. If you find one, write. Correction is part of the learning board.
