L-board · Experiment
Who is a visit actually for?
An open learning board. Not a case study with the ending written first.
- Question
- Can a visit be designed so the guest leaves able to do something, and the place is not poorer for having hosted them?
- Place
- Common Ground spaces, when a visit is actually open.
- People
- Hosts, guests, and the people whose daily work the visit touches.
- What we tried
- Curated commune experiences and workshops, rather than an open resort calendar. The design question is the connection: place, culture, nature, and a responsible way of travelling.
- What happened
- Experiences exist as a form. Current availability is not published here, because a stale open sign is worse than a closed one. Enquiry is the door.
- What we learned
- If the photograph is the product, the visit has already failed the test this movement set itself. The product, if there is one, is a change in how the guest makes, grows, or pays attention afterward.
- What others can try
- Before you host, write what the place cannot absorb this month. Tell the guest that limit first. Then design the day.
If you try a version of this, the useful reply is what happened, including the failure. Send it when you write. We would rather extend the board than collect praise.
