The Common Ground Join

L-board · Experiment

What does music do inside a working gathering?

An open learning board. Not a case study with the ending written first.

Question, place, people, attempt, result, lesson, and something another person can try.

Question
Does music change what a group can hold, or is it only the pleasant part of the day?
Place
Common Ground gatherings.
People
Whoever is playing, singing, listening, filming.
What we tried
Music inside gatherings, not as a separate concert product. Performance-led films are part of the documentation line when they are made.
What happened
The account shows people playing together. This page will not describe a discography that has not been handed to the site, or claim a cultural outcome from a song.
What we learned
A gathering that cannot sit still long enough to listen is also a gathering that will struggle to observe. Music is one of the attention practices, beside the field notebook.
What others can try
In your own space, put one unamplified session in the day and do not film the first one. Notice whether the work afterward is different. Write one sentence, not a review.

If you try a version of this, the useful reply is what happened, including the failure. Send it when you write. We would rather extend the board than collect praise.
